It is a term implying too many different forms of electronic information made possible with computer technology. The term is in relation to “old” media reforms, such us magazines and print newspapers that are static representation of text and graphics. New media include email, web advertising, web sites, chat rooms, streaming audio and video. Use of the term new media implies that the data transmission is happening between desktop and laptop computers. New as a language of new media is described as the change that has taken place in the communication sector from time immemorial. This has drastically improved living conditions of many people all over the world.

New as a term in the phrase, “new media” is understood combination of old communication devices with modern ones mainly used to convey given information. Flew stated that because of the evolution of new media technologies, globalization occurs. It state that “more than expansion of activities beyond the boundaries of the nation states.” Media environment keeps on changing due to change in technology (Manning, 2001, p.89). This brings tension all over the world due to competition experienced in the new media.
According to Volkmer (1999, p.123), “the public sphere” is a process through which communication in public becomes a structure and partly embodied from notational political and cultural institutions. This trend of the globalised public sphere is as not only a geographical expansion forms a nation to worldwide, but also as changes the relationship between the public, the new media, and state.
The phrase “new media” is not only associated to social media but also in cultural media. While we believe there is more to new media than social, people emerge saying that, without social aspects in new media, the whole system would have collapsed. Face book, Twitter, and other social sites are accumulating a large user base and expanding the time spent on average by their companies. Users of the term “new media” themselves admit ambivalence. In their introduction, Keenan, (2006, p.76) say “we chose the title new media worlds knowing that there is currently considerable debate about whether and to what extent there is, in fact, anything “new” about the changes associated with digital media” As Terry Flew acknowledges.
Digital media technology is rampant in day-to-day lives through different ways of interaction such as, in social institutions that they are ceasing to be “new” in any meaning sense of the term. As well us being largely inaccurate by most definitions of “new”, the term “new media” is relative and time-bound, meaning it will become increasingly problematic as further developments occur. Describing media in this way is, at best, a temporary step and contributes little to understanding their distinctive characteristics. At worst, it is unhistorical ignoring the long history of mediated communication and the associated social and cultural practices, which can inform current and future analysis.
Some, such as Lister (2009, p. 92), argue that use of the phrase “new media” does not refer to their novelty, but rather serves to identify and examine media at a particular “historical Occasion.” New media are unsatisfactory in that; it obscures developments occurring within categorized explicitly or by default as “old media” or “traditional media” and sleads to either-or binary thinking and what Brown and Duguid, 2000, p. 142 calls endism. They confidently predicted that the internet would mean the end of television.
In the same year, Meyer, (2009, p.78), declared the end of mass media advertising. In his book Meyer applied US newspaper readership trend data between 1967 and 2002 to plot a line showing newspapers readership reaching zero in April 2043. UK media commentator Roy Greenslade offers no date, but he told a May 2008 “Future of Journalism” summit in Sydney that,” popular newspapers, the mass newspapers, are dying and will die”. New in the phrase, “new media” can also refer to the multi linear and increasingly multimedia and per formative nature of digital communication. From ancient time, communication has played a vital role in our lives. It has improved transport system across the world using online communication system.
New media creates employment opportunities thus improving the living condition of many people. New ideas generated daily to improve the new media system, which brings fourth change in technology. New business opportunities created daily through use of new media in advertising. This brings fourth expansion of different businesses all over the world. Technology in new media is changing at a fast rate due to new ideas brought forward, which is termed as new. Introduction of new communication devices such as, telephone, telegraph, landline phone, mobile phone, email, picture call, and video call, social networking services such as, face book, and twitter.
New media helps people from using old forms of communication such as, drawings, hieroglyphics, smoke, brail, Morse code, and the, simple old letter in the post. Journalists all over the world require new media technology to carry out their research. This helps them to produce quality research work needed during their fieldwork. The phrase “new media” Therefore, implies that, new things generated from the old media to the new media creating room for new ideas. It is, therefore, our role to improve the new media with change in technology.
