Abstract

This paper seeks to address migration as an activity that is inherent in human nature caused by push and pull factors. It critically analyzes immigration in Uganda and its associated impacts. This study will analyze the theories and approaches to migration and suggest its potential effects to the economy of Uganda. In the course of the analysis the study will construct a baseline scenario that has been evident in to track the current trends of internal migration in major urban areas in Uganda. In the course of the study the findings will be used to suggest possible solutions to mitigate the negative impacts and enhance the potential positive impacts. Thus the report will provide solutions that may be of importance to policy makers, as well as, monitoring immigration trends which are very essential in the development of the discipline of migration and public policy in general.

The study will employ a mixed method since it encompasses both Qualitative and quantitative research. In order to achieve best results the study will incorporate urban surveys in data collection. Furthermore, qualitative data will exploratory and quantitative data will be obtained through the use of primary methods of data collection such as questionnaires. Generally, it will be based on phenomenological research design.

Interviews will also be conducted to obtain information from households through the use of cluster sampling by use of systematic random sampling technique. Thus in the course of the study, questionnaires will be subjected to each cluster in a random criterion to enhance precision and minimize bias in the sample selected. Thus, the study will be majorly interactive. Other sources of data collection will also be used in order to enhance to enhance accuracy and validity.
